THE CHAI-CYCLE is set to return to the streets this September for the London Design Festival. Our pop up tea shop will join forces with the pop up shop The Poundshop on the 23rd of September for their late night opening.

South Weekend: Bankside Urban Forest

Day 2: Sunday saw THE CHAI-CYCLE start at the home of Better Bankside. There was a residents gathering, along with a collection of walkers setting out on a Bankside Urban Forest Walk. THE CHAI-CYCLE rolled through the narrow streets of Southwark to The Oikos Project, and offered tired workers refreshment. The last stop for the Festival was The Urban Orchard, where the inquisitive passer by enjoyed a cupper before entering the urban eden.

THE CHAI-CYCLE now rests in a Southwark arch, but plans are already afoot for a return to London’s streets. Look out for the Chai-cyclists popping up on a street near you in the future.

South Weekend: Bankside Urban Forest

Day 1: The weekend of 3rd July saw THE CHAI-CYCLE meandering around the South Bank. We accompanied the London Flapjack Association for a while before pitching up outside the Union Street Urban Orchard. The highlight was our Chai Party! The forgotten railway arch on Treveris Street was filled with people and the aroma of chai, while the early evening sunlight streamed through the arch, bubbles filled the air and the sound of bollywood added to the surreal spectacle.

South Weekend: Bankside Urban Forest

THE CHAI-CYCLE will re-emerge this weekend to take part in the Bankside Urban Forest. Find us pedalling our wares between the Union Street Urban Orchard and the Recycle Reuse Workshop on Marlborough Playground.

East Weekend: Highstreet 2012

Day 2: From Whitechapel to Stratford. Cycling east was peaceful on the Sunday morning. The first stop was outside Stratford Tube Station. People were streaming out of the station on what was one of the hottest days this year. They drink hot tea in the desert, dont you know?

Second stop was near LFA organised SERVICE, where workshops were taking place from where colourful bunting, kites and colour streamed out of a disused shop. ‘What is chai, can we try some?’ seemed to be the question for the many disappointed football fans pouring out of pubs around us.

The journey back was the longest yet, from Stratford to Southbank over London Bridge. THE CHAI-CYCLE now sleeps in the Orchard resting from its busy weekend. It is soon to be awoken for more journeys around London which will be announced shortly….

East Weekend: Highstreet 2012

Day 1: Our first journey on the road: Camberwell to Whitechapel. The journey comprised of excited exclamations, people pointing, children shouting ‘what is that?’, some frowns, some beeps, some cheers over Tower Bridge, all in all an exciting sweaty experience. We stopped in the market and hit the afternoon tea cravings. The smell of chai merged into the smells of the spices of the market.

THE CHAI-CYCLE is rearing to go and will grace the London streets on Saturday 26th June. Look out for us on Whitechapel High Street on Saturday the 26th of June, and Stratford on Sunday the 27th of June as we flit between LFA events as part of the East Weekend.
